A non-refundable rate is a discounted room rate, lower than the flexible rate, for which payment is not returned if the guest cancels or changes the booking.
The guest pays a lower price while the hotel secures the revenue and eliminates cancellation risk. It is usually priced 5–15% below the BAR and charged at the time of booking.
Offering non-refundable and refundable rates side by side gives guests a choice while also strengthening the hotel's cash flow.
