A stop sale is an instruction from the hotel to its sales channels and agencies to stop accepting new reservations for specific dates or room types.
A stop sale is issued when the hotel is full, when a room type goes into renovation, or when the hotel wants to close allotment sales. If the stop sale does not reach every channel at the same time, bookings keep arriving for closed dates and overbooking occurs.
