What is Release Period?

The release period is the number of days before the arrival date by which an agency must return unsold allotment rooms to the hotel.
For example, with a 7-day release period, rooms allotted for July 20 that are still unsold on July 13 go back to the hotel, which can then sell them through its own channels.
Short release periods favor the agency and long release periods favor the hotel; the period is set in the allotment contract.
Example
With a 7-day release, if 2 rooms of a 5-room allotment for July 20 have been sold by July 13, the remaining 3 rooms are released back to the hotel.
